BAckgroundBACKGROUND
Christ Church Missoula is a biblical covenant community founded upon covenant renewal worship, preaching and teaching of God’s Word, observation of the sacraments, community outreach, and a strong emphasis on family and Christian education. The church was founded in December 2008 and began covenant renewal worship services in January 2009. Seven families were involved in the early stages of formation, and with growth over the last two years, our congregation now numbers more than sixty. Many members have been associated with our mother church or denominational sister churches. The majority of our congregation has lived in the Missoula area for at least five years.

Church Affiliation
AffiliationWe are a plant of Christ Church of Moscow, Idaho, a thirty-five year old congregation with attendance exceeding 1,000. Our mother church’s ministries include: Greyfriars’ Hall, a ministerial training program; Collegiate Reformed Fellowship, a college ministry; Credenda/Agenda, a theological journal; and Canon Press, a Christian publisher. Christ Church was also instrumental in the founding of Logos School, a K-12 classical & Christian school; New Saint Andrews College, a classical & Christian college; the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches, a denomination for churches of the reformed faith; and the Association of Classical & Christian Schools, whose members include 200 schools across the United States and ten foreign countries.

Denomination
The Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches includes seventy-seven member and mission churches in six countries. Our denomination includes churches whose teachings are anchored in the historic theology of the Protestant Reformation (also called reformed theology or the reformed faith) and are governed by elders under the jurisdiction of presbyteries. The nearest member churches are located in Helena, Montana; Billings, Montana; Spokane, Washington; and Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.

What We Believe

As a church, our statement of faith is included in our Book of Confessions on this website and contains those creeds and confessions of the historic church to which we subscribe. We also place particular emphasis on:

  • Weekly covenant renewal worship which is robust and joyful and includes: reading and preaching of God’s Word, singing of Psalms and hymns, corporate prayer, and the Lord’s Supper;

  • Teaching that is squarely in the reformed Presbyterian tradition and that recognizes Christ’s lordship over all of creation and every aspect of our lives;

  • Using the covenantal relationship between the three persons of the Trinity as a model for the social life of our church and for our families;

  • Raising our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord with particular emphasis on and support of Christian education;

  • An optimistic view of history with the expectation that the gospel will gradually spread throughout the world and one day all nations will submit to Christ;

  • Exercise of church discipline with the goal of repentance and restoration when other methods of loving confrontation, rebuke, and counseling prove ineffective; and

  • Confrontation of contemporary culture in our community through teaching, seminars, and debates.

Planned Ministries
Planned Ministries
Existing and future ministry plans include covenant renewal worship services with weekly communion, Bible studies, psalm sings, a homeschool theology colloquium, college ministry, debates and seminars focused on culture and contemporary issues, community outreach, and involvement in classical Christian education.

Leadership

Leadership
The day-to-day affairs of our church are administered by a Steering Committee in conformance with the Mission Church Protocols of our mother church and our Constitution and Book of Confessions. Our Steering Committee is composed of Mr. Joe Crawford, chairman; Dr. Mike Lawyer, member; and Mr. Taylor Crawford, member. Dr. Mike Lawyer, Associate Minister of Christ Church Moscow and member of our Steering Committee, serves as our elder pro tempore and functions as our session pro tempore until such time as we have ordained elders of Christ Church Missoula. Until such time as we call a pastor, preaching will be provided by students of Greyfriars’ Hall, the ministerial training school of Christ Church in Moscow, elders of our mother church, the chairman of our Steering Committee, and other qualified men.

Our Logo
Symbolism is a very powerful means of communication and can often send a message just as effectively as written or spoken words. In our logo we wish to communicate that we are a church that recognizes and embraces its rich historical heritage and also is focused on serving our local community. To communicate our ties with the historic church, we chose to have the outline of the logo be in the form of a quatrefoil which is a classic symbol found in Medieval and Reformation-era church architecture. The four "petals" represent the four gospels and is also a subtle form of a cross. To identify ourselves with our local community we included the outline of mountains inside the quatrefoil and used a rustic font style for the text.
